Polpo (Private Commission)

Polpo (Private Commission) by Lisa Rampilli
Lisa says: “This is the preparatory drawing for a silk scarf. The square space is filled with octopus tentacles and small zoomorphic elements. I was inspired by a wonderful terracotta vase (swipe), from the archaeological museum in Athens. It struck me how this very intelligent animal can be graphically rendered so that its tentacles become a decorative element. I chose to represent it in a stylized way because I was interested in conveying the “idea“ of the octopus, rather than drawing it in a naturalistic way.”
